A gut-healthy smoothie bowl


When it comes to a healthy smoothie bowl recipe that is delicious, filling, and good for your gut, gastroenterologist and Fiber Fueled author Will Bulsiewicz, MD, has shared his go-to breakfast on Instagram, and it’s full of nourishing ingredients:

  • Blueberries

  • Walnuts

  • hemp seeds

  • coconut chips

Simply pour the blueberries and alternative milk in a blender. Blend for 30 seconds and pour into a bowl. Top with the walnuts, hemp seeds, and dried coconut.


Walnuts and hemp seeds are key because they’re full of omega-3, which are an essential fatty acid that we must get from food and are important for many functions in the body.


The key to making a nutritious smoothie bowl is coming up with the right combinations that are both filling and delicious. The diversity of ingredients is endless. However, please remember that while fruit is a major part of what makes smoothie bowls so delicious (and nutrient-rich with antioxidants), it must be balanced with healthy fats, fibre and proteins to have a breakfast that satisfies your hunger and your taste buds all morning.
